Is weed legal for me?
Well yes, but not as much as it should be. It’s a complicated situation. Essentially, the state voted on Marijuana Question 1 back in 2016, which would legalize recreational marijuana for adults over 21. The measure barely passed with 50.26% of the vote, thereby legalizing recreational marijuana. But, whereas California, Massachusetts, and Nevada (three other states that legalized marijuana on the same night in 2016) were all able to get their cannabis industries up and running shortly thereafter, Maine has unfortunately not yet begun the commercial sale of marijuana to the public, almost four years later.
Retail sales had actually been planned to begin in June of this year, which on its own, is already a long wait. However, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, it was announced in April that retail sales would have to be delayed until further notice.
