Is weed legal here?
Unfortunately, recreational cannabis is not yet legal in Missouri, though it does seem that the state is on track the change this, hopefully within the next few years. One such indicator is Missouri’s recent establishment of a medical marijuana program. Back in 2018, this matter was put to a public vote, in which the state overwhelmingly voted ‘yes’ at a margin of 65.6%, kicking off this program which now has over 30,000 registered patients. In addition, only a year before this vote, additional legislation was passed that reduced fines for possession of cannabis down to only about $25. Altogether, these developments signify even greater changes to come. At a surface level, the public is very much familiar with the concept of legal & regulated cannabis; but even more importantly, the state recognizes the injustice of harsh punishments for simple possession and the negative effect that can have. Given that preventing unfair prison sentences and punitive measures is one of the principal motives behind legalization, this is an excellent sign for the future.
