Is weed legal yet?

It sure is! Well, for adults 21 or over in the state of Illinois, it is. This is all actually quite recent. Back in May, the Illinois state Senate and House deliberated on whether to approve the monumental Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, which like the name suggests, called to establish a taxed and regulated legal marijuana industry within the state, as well as totally decriminalizing recreational marijuana. Ultimately they approved the bill, at which point Governor J.B. Pritzker was happy to sign it into law. At the beginning of 2020, this new legislation took effect, making Illinois the 11th state to legalize marijuana. In the face of almost 100 years of federal prohibition, that 22% of all US states have now legalized marijuana in just eight years seems huge, and a great sign of further changes to come.

Now despite this wave of progress being made, the federal government has not been moved by it, choosing to uphold its outdated and archaic federal regulations. One such regulation makes it illegal for states to ship marijuana crops over state lines, even into legal states. Naturally, this could scare off anyone considering buying pot seeds, as the legal jeopardy would simply not be worth it.
