So is weed legal yet?

If you happen to be an adult over the age of 21 in the state of Illinois, then yes it is. This is actually quite a recent development, in fact. Back in May of 2019, the Illinois State House and Senate voted to approve the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, which like the name suggests, called for the creation of a regulatory board so that cannabis can be taxed and sold within the state. This is in addition to totally decriminalizing possession and use of recreational marijuana. A month after its approval, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed this bill into law, and the new legislation officially took effect at the beginning of 2020. Will Michigan becoming the 10 state to do this only a month prior, Illinois was now the 11th.

This wave of progress is frankly unprecedented. We’ve been facing almost 100 years of federal marijuana prohibition in this country, which itself has led to entire generations of men and women being unfairly and unjustly persecuted by the legal system. And now, in just eight years, 22% of all US states have passed similar legalization measures. Let’s try to keep this momentum going until we reach 100%.
