Is weed legal here?

Yes, it is now! Well, if you’re an adult over the age of 21, then yes! Last May, the Illinois state House of Representatives and state Senate voted to approve the groundbreaking bill known as the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. Like the name suggests, this bill sought to establish a safe, taxed and regulated legal marijuana industry, as well as completely decriminalize the use and possession of recreational marijuana. After gaining this approval, the bill found its way to the desk of Governor J.B. Pritzker, who signed into law only a month later. And at the beginning of 2020, this new legislation finally took effect, making Illinois the 11th state to legalize marijuana.

Given that marijuana has been federally prohibited for the better part of 100 years in this country, which has resulted in generations of oppressive policing and enforcement, the fact that now 22% of all US states have legalized marijuana in just eight years seems highly significant. Hopefully we can keep this progress going until we reach 100%.

What’s the difference between medical and recreational marijuana?

The differences are the intent of each, which is reflected by the chemical makeup of any given strain. Medical marijuana is intended to provide medicinal and healing benefits to its users, which is the result of high concentrations of the cannabinoid CBD.
