Is weed legal for me?

It is now! Well, if you’re an adult 21 or over in the state of Illinois that is. Last May, the Illinois state House and Senate deliberated on whether to approve the bill known as the Cannabis Tax and Regulation Act. This groundbreaking bill called for the creation of a safe, taxed and regulated legal marijuana within the state, as well as totally decriminalizing possession and use of recreational marijuana. They indeed approved it, and a month later Governor Pritzker signed this bill into law. Six months later at the beginning of this year, this new legislation took effect, making Illinois the 11th state in the Union to legalize marijuana.

To take stock of things: we’ve been facing almost 100 years of federal marijuana prohibition and its associated oppression, and now, only in the last eight years, 22% of all US states have passed legalization measures. This seems like a truly positive sign of where things are headed. Baby steps! We’ll get there.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are naturally-occurring chemical compounds found in every marijuana plant, and they are responsible for the effects of marijuana that we are familiar with. Our bodies contain what is known as the endocannabinoid system, and to put it as succinctly as possible, this system is responsible for a myriad of physiological functions we probably never think about. Inside this system are cannabinoid receptors, which can cause certain reactions in the body if introduced to cannabinoids.
