So is weed legal?

Unfortunately, marijuana is not yet legal in the state of Ohio, though there have been some developments that seem to suggest a legalization movement could be a real possibility in the near future. The first of these is the state’s establishment of a medical marijuana program, which is an important precedent to set as it familiarizes the public with the idea of legal marijuana. Despite gaining voter approval back in 2016, delays have significantly stalled the progress being made, with the first licensed dispensaries in Ohio not opening until 2019. However, today there are almost 60 dispensaries in the state, so the program does appear to be doing well.

The other important development is the movement to completely decriminalize low-level marijuana infractions. Currently this holds a reduced criminal status, and all around the state, there have been big pushes for total decriminalization. The Cincinnati City Council recently became the first legislative body in the state to pass such an ordinance, so hopefully, other municipalities will soon follow suit.

What is medical marijuana anyway?

Medical marijuana is known for its ability to provide a host of medicinal benefits and healing effects for many people. The main component in providing these effects is a cannabinoid known as cannbidiol, or more commonly referred to as CBD. Medical marijuana strains will contain a high amount of CBD, and a low amount of THC relative to that of recreational marijuana.
