So is marijuana legal in Oregon?

It most certainly is! Since following in the footsteps of trailblazing states like Washington and Colorado, legalizing recreational marijuana in 2014, Oregon has embraced the cannabis industry so openly that it has actually created some problems, but we’ll get to that in a second.

First off, under Oregon’s laws, a person can be in possession of 1 oz of marijuana in public and up to 8 (homegrown) ounces at home. You can also grow up to four plants at home, which, both of these provisions allow more leniency than even in other legal states like Washington and Illinois.

The problem that has been created is one of abundance, as the state has cultivated more marijuana, “than its 4 million residents can ever possibly hope to smoke.” The situation is so severe that it would reportedly take 6.5 years to sell all the marijuana in the state, without any more production in that time. Because all this marijuana can’t legally be transported elsewhere and sold in other states, Oregon is stuck with this large surplus on its hands, which in turn has driven the retail price of marijuana down dramatically. This is great for recreational users, though the downside is that all this extra marijuana will likely go bad over time. All the more reason to start growing your own.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a collection of chemical ingredients that power how marijuana effects the body. In total, there are over 113 individual cannabinoids, though only a select few really get much attention. The main one if tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which induces the psychoactive effects typically sought by recreational users.

The other important cannabinoids are the ones that provide the most medical promise: cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), and cannabigerol (CBG).
