Growing Tips for Banana Candy
Banana Candy plants can be tricky to grow if you don’t have any prior growing experience. Intermediate and master-level growers shouldn’t have any issues bringing this strain to fruition. You can grow Banana Candy both indoors and outdoors under the correct conditions. Indoor grows tend to be easier because the conditions can be controlled from beginning to end. These plants require a warm, sunny, and semi-humid environment to really reach their peak. If you are planning to grow outdoors, you will need to do so in the summertime to provide the plant(s) with the most sunlight, best air quality, and correct temperatures and humidity for this strain to thrive. If you live in an area where you have good weather year-round, then you can cultivate this crop year-round as long as the nighttime temperatures don’t drop too low. These plants grow short and bushy, so you can grow multiple plants in a smaller area and reap the rewards of double or triple the average harvest. They don’t require much space to thrive. The ideal temperature for these plants is between 68-82 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity levels of approximately 50% during the vegetative phase, gradually decreasing to between 40% during the flowering stage, will ensure a healthy grow. Low-Stress Training (LST) and the Screen of Green methods are the best methods of training for these plants. LST is less stressful on the plant and the grower. Screen of Green will keep the heavy buds from breaking the stems and branches of this plant by adding a screen or mesh to the plant to reinforce the branches. These techniques will ultimately increase your yields come harvest time. Banana Candy plants require an 18-20 hour light cycle to get them started and to get them through the vegetative stage. To induce the flowering stage of growth, you will need to change the light cycle to a 12/12 cycle. You can maintain this light cycle through to your harvest.
Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest
- Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Banana Candy strain to harvest after a short flowering period of 55-65 days.
- Yields: While Indoor yields are around 450 grams per square meter, outdoor grows typically produce up to 450 grams per plant. Because these plants tend to grow short and bushy, you can grow multiple plants in a smaller grow area to double or triple your yields. This is the most effective way to increase your yields while putting out the same amount of effort as you would for a smaller grow.
- Harvest: Outdoor grows should be ready to harvest around the beginning of October, depending on when you planted your seeds.
Banana Candy: Skunky and Tropical
The Banana Candy terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes, and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, while myrcene and limonene are the secondary terpenes.
- Caryophyllene: Most Dominant – The “spicy and peppery” terpene. Found in cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, and cannabis.
- Myrcene: Secondary Terpene – Known in the cannabis world as the “Mother of all Terpenes”, myrcene gives marijuana its earthy flavor and aroma.
- Limonene: Citrus Fruits – Limonene can be found in abundance in the rinds of citrus fruits and in cannabis plants. This terpene helps decrease anxiety and improve lung function.
