Growing Tips for Afghan Kush
Afghan Kush is an easy strain to grow, even if you have minimal experience growing and harvesting cannabis plants. Afghan Kush marijuana plants will thrive both indoors and outdoors, but have an easier time growing indoors because of the grower’s ability to manage the climate. If you choose to grow indoors, you will have to replicate a steady environment similar to the climate of the Mediterranean. Afghan Kush seeds produce plants that are bright green with longer leaves than other variants. If you are going to grow outdoors, you will need to maintain a consistent temperature and humidity to grow these plants to harvest. Doing so will ensure that you grow potent and pungent buds from the top of the plants to the bottom. Having access to a greenhouse is the best way to give these plants the perfect outdoor climate they require without having to put up with unexpected outdoor variables. These plants grow medium and can reach around 4-7 feet in height. Because the plants reach a maximum height of 7 feet, they require a bit more headroom than other cannabis strains. The ideal temperature for these plants is around 68-80 degrees Fahrenheit and slightly cooler at night. Humidity levels should be kept at 40-70% during the vegetative growth stage and the flowering stage. Growing indoors will ensure that the moderate humidity levels and moderate temperatures are constant and maintained every day that the plants are in the growing stages. Topping, Low-stress training (LST), and the Screen of Green (ScrOG) training methods are the best techniques for this strain. These methods promote an increase in yields when it comes time for you to harvest the pungent buds. The Afghan Kush strain requires an 18-20 hour light cycle to reach the vegetative stage of growth. Changing the light cycle to a 12/12 cycle will induce the flowering stage of growth and carry your plants all the way to harvest.
Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest
- Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Afghan Kush strain to harvest after a short flowering period of 55-65 days.
- Yields: While Indoor yields are around 450 grams per square meter, outdoor grows typically produce up to 600 grams per plant. Once you have harvested the biggest and best buds on this plant, you will be lush with dank cannabis nuggets for a while.
- Harvest: Outdoor growers can plan on harvesting their yields around the middle of October, depending on when the seeds were planted.
Afghan Kush: Legendary Kush
The Afghan Kush terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes, and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, while myrcene and pinene are the secondary terpenes.
- Caryophyllene: Most Dominant – The peppery and spicy terpene, you can find caryophyllene in cannabis as well as cinnamon and black pepper.
- Myrcene: Secondary Terpene – Known as the “Mother of all terpenes”, myrcene gives cannabis its earthy and aromatic profile.
- Pinene: Pine Needles – Pinene is commonly found in pine needles and conifer trees as well as some marijuana cultivars.

I appreciate the germination guarantee. It gives a lot of peace of mind when investing in premium genetics. This Afghan Kush is growing exactly as described. The stems are sturdy and the root systems are incredibly dense and white. Great job by the breeders at Norcal.
High resin production and sturdy plants.
Pacific Seed Bank is very reliable. My seeds arrived quickly and every one of them was viable. The plants are currently in the flowering stage and the trichome coverage is impressive. I appreciate the growing tips.
Healthy sprouts and very easy growth.
Beautiful dark green foliage and frosty.
The customer service team is fantastic. I called with a question about the flowering time and they were very knowledgeable. The plants themselves are giants. I am glad I kept an eye on the height because they really wanted to stretch during early flower.
Great support and very healthy sprouts.
The customer support is top tier. They answered my email within an hour. The seeds themselves were fantastic and I had no issues with the germination phase. The plants are now tall and beautiful.
Germination was 100 percent for my pack. I am growing these in a coastal environment and they are holding up well. The plants are a bit shorter than I expected but the structure is very open which allows for great airflow through the dense canopy.
