So is weed legal yet?
Yep, it sure is! Well, for adults 21 or over in the state of Michigan, that is. A little over a year ago in November of 2018, Michigan put to a vote the monumental Proposal 1. This measure sought to legalize marijuana as well as establish a taxed and regulated marijuana industry within the state. It passed, gathering an impressive 2.3 million ‘yes’ votes at a margin of 56%. A month later, the state allowed the possession and use of recreational marijuana, and one year after that local business finally were allowed to begin selling marijuana to the public. Thus, Michigan became the 10th state to legalize marijuana, followed shortly thereafter by Illinois as the 11th.
It’s worth considering the facts here: for the last almost-100 years, this country has been facing federal marijuana prohibition and its unfortunately harsh enforcement. Fast forward to now, and 22% of all US states have legalized it in just the last eight years. This kind of forward progress is unprecedented, and seems to signify further coming changes.
